Our Daily Work

As an industrial association, EUBIA aims at helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to keep up with relevant technological legal developments. We are well placed as an information multiplier, disseminating technologies and know-how to SMEs across the entire biomass industry. We also act as an aggregator of demand, identifying shared problems and ensuring that research focuses on real business needs.

Policy Player

EUBIA aims at influencing key European policies affecting the biomass industry; we intend to represent and promote the European biomass industry interests;

  • EUBIA participates in several policy initiatives aiming to encourage and maintain a positive framework for the bioenergy sector
  • EUBIA is a founding member of EREC -European Renewable Energy Council, which is an umbrella organisation of the leading European renewable energy industry. Through EREC, EUBIA has the opportunity to submit sectorial inputs to the EU institutions and has also supported a number of position papers on renewables (see, Position papers)
  • EUBIA is currently supporting, as a Campaign Associate, the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign 2009-2011.

Concept Developer

EUBIA also promotes bioenergy activities at small, medium and large scale in collaboration with local and national authorities, biomass providers, industries, research centres and local partners. In particular, EUBIA contributes in identifying and promoting modern concepts, commercial technologies and biomass resources able to penetrate energy industrial markets.

European Project Partner

EUBIA is frequently a partner in international projects on bioenergy co-financed by the European Commission. EUBIA is currently participating as a partner organisation in ten internationally funded projects, and we are the general coordinator of the BIOPROS project, see further details of our finalised and ongoing Projects.

Global Bioenergy Partnership

The Secretary General of EUBIA, Dr. Giuliano Grassi, co-chaired the initial Preparatory Meeting for an International Partnership on Bioenergy in Rome 6 September 2005, which followed the Rome workshop (14 June 2005) and the commitments of the G8 Leaders in Gleneagles in July 2005. The outcome of this process resulted in the creation of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) of which EUBIA is a partner organisation.

For more information on this partnership, please view our dedicated page to the Global Bioenergy Partnership.

EUBIA-Russia Framework Cooperation

In January 2005, a cooperation agreement was signed between EUBIA and the Federal Agency of Science and Innovations of the Russian Federation, intending to improve scientific, technical and industrial cooperation for the promotion of modern strategies and innovative bioenergy technologies and to enhance the exchange of information and technological transfer etc. In this respect, a number of meetings have already been held with different stakeholders in order to define the implementation of the envisaged activities, such as joint workshops, conferences, transfer of technology agreements etc.
