Biograce Project- Harmonisation of biofuel greenhouse gas emissions calculations
Date: 30-04-10

12.05.2010 Brussels. An EU funded project Biograce aims to harmonise calculations of greenhouse gas emissions that are performed in the EU under legislation implementing the Renewable Energy Directive and the Fuel Quality Directive for biofuels and bioliquids.

On the Biograce website an Excel file is published that helps companies, advisors and auditors to perform biofuel greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) calculations in a harmonised way. The Excel file allows making GHG calculations following the methodology of the two recent EC directives 2009/28/EC (RED) and 2009/30/EC (FQD). The Excel file makes transparent how the values listed in RED Annex V were calculated. The version 1 that is now public contains four of the twenty-two biofuel production pathways for which default values are listed in RED Annex V.A. Later this year, a version with all twenty-two pathways will be made public. The website also contains a separate Excel file with a list of standard values to be used to convert input numbers into GHG emissions.
