EU expects solid progress on Paris Agreement implementation at UN climate conference in Bonn

The 23rd Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP23),  is taking place from 6-17 November 2017 in Bonn, Germany. The EU expects as a result of the conference that the international community’s commitment will be reaffirmed and that it will continue to give a global response to climate change and achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The EU is committed to achieve its Paris target, with the collective nationally determined contribution which aims a reduction of a 40% in the EU greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. To do, so there are several issues to look at, such as the EU emissions trading system, (EU ETS) post 2020 and setting emissions reduction targets for non-ETS sectors.

Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy will represent the EU in the conference in Bonn along with  Siim Kiisler, Environment Minister of Estonia, which currently holds the presidency of the Council of Ministers of the EU.
