The BLAZE project aims to develop an innovative, highly efficient, and fuel-flexible technology for combined heat and power (CHP) generation from biomass. The project will demonstrate an integrated biomass gasifier and fuel cell CHP plant as a cost-effective solution for producing renewable electricity and heat from residual biomass.
The CHP system combines technologies with proven performance and reliability, including bubbling fluidised bed gasification, hot gas cleaning and conditioning, industrialised solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), and off-gas recirculation. By integrating these advanced components into a single system, BLAZE seeks to maximise efficiency, operational flexibility, and overall system performance.
Aligned with the SET-Plan Key Action 8 on renewable fuels and bioenergy, the project will contribute to accelerating the innovation cycle and lay the foundations for the next generation of biomass-based energy technologies in Europe.
