EUBIA report on the market potential for sustainable biomass production

 biomass sustainability
  • The report aims at analyzing the sustainability of biomass feedstock and the possible risks
  • More action is needed from Member States and the EU in order to address the sustainability of biomass of possible market bottlenecks

EUBIA makes now public its report on the sustainability of biomass for electricity and heating generation. It is partly based on the recently published European Commission document on the sustainability of solid and gaseous biomass. EUBIA’s report gives an overview of the European bioenergy market both for electricity and heating generation. Furthermore, it addresses the multiple issues that might affect the growth and sustainbility of biomass production such as the impact of land use, land use change and forestry or the policy and legal differences between Member States that could create market barriers and hinder the development of this renewable energy. Additionally, it offers a series of alternatives and policy options that should untap the potential of sustainable biomass production in the EU.

EUBIA will periodically publish in its web sectoral reports on the latest developments that might affect bioenergy and the production and use of bioresources, within the fields of research and innovation, policy and legislation or market development.
