EUBIA, on behalf of EnAlgae Project presents:

The Algal Information Network

EnAlgae is a international project financed by the Programme Interreg NWE IVB. The project brings together 19 partners and 14 observers across seven EU Member States. It aims to reduce CO2 emissions and dependency on unsustainable energy sources in North West Europe. Since 2009, the project is developing sustainable technologies for algal biomass production, bioenergy and greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation, taking them from pilot facilities through to market-place products and services. One of EnAlgae’s missions is to increase transparency in the algae sector in NW Europe and present the state of the art of research and development on algae, and respective commercial activities. For this purpose a thorough landscaping study has been carried out in 2012-2014 in NW-Europe and it is still ongoing. EnAlgae project will end  officially in December 2015, leaving a huge number of reports, results, communication initiatives and promising strategies developed by the consortium and aimed to foster the development of algae market in EU regions.  In order to avoid the loss of such precious material and to continue supporting the algae sector development in North West Europe, the project itself presents the Algal Information Network (AIN). AIN can be considered as the EnAlgae results manager for the next years, its role is to manage, improve and implement results obtained by EnAlgae project and to organize an efficient training and information distribution strategy addressed to key actors and stakeholders in each of the project region.

Algal Information Network aims at supporting the development of algae sector in Europe by improving the cooperation and knowledge of market forces, research organizations, policy and decision makers. In addition, Algal Information Network will be open to stakeholders who wish to benefit from the results and tools developed within EnAlgae and many other European Projects and initiatives. This will form a greater alliance with technology providers and other closely associated R&D and market bodies wishing to understand and promote the development of algae for bioenergy and bioremediation. The role of the Algal Information Network will be to structure productive and active initiatives able to contribute to the algae sector scale up in each of the identified region. In particular, the roles of AIN will be:

  • Decision Support Tool: Algae Network will host on its webpage the Decision Support Tool, an ICT first level consultancy tool, developed by EnAlgae Project, which will be able to help investors, authorities and stakeholders to analyse the competitiveness of algae business cases at regional and national Level.
  • Algae Sector Open Database. AIN will publish a detailed database based on most relevant EnAlgae market research and other Europena project results. The database reports information on key actors operating in algae sector: companies, authorities, universities, technology providers, end users, etc..
  • International and National projects Dissemination: Collect information from all EC projects and public-private partnerships developed in the last 10 years in order to provide a valuable overview on the current technology status, promising strategies, market potential and future perspectives
  • Expert Network: Scientific Experts will be involved in Algal Information Network. they  will act as knowledge owners able to collaborate and exchange information with stakeholders.
  • Networking service for stakeholders, drawing upon skills, infrastructure, LCA, policy and market assessment, decision support tool
  • Regional Algae Support Centre (ASCs): relevant experts operating in each region will be involved as representative of dedicated support centres aimed at supporting stakeholders to approach the algae sector.
