BIOMAC: Biobased Nano Materials Community

EUBIA is proud to inform its participation to “BIOMAC” project, an Horizon 2020 project that started in January 2021. The main goal of the project is to reduce all the barriers that hinder the full development and revolutionary applications of biobased nanomaterials and similar technologies. In order to do so, BIOMAC will create an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) capable of upscaling the market-readiness and production of nanostrctured bio-based materials (NMBs). The Ecosystem will be made accessible to interested SMEs after an initial phase of tests.

But what exactly are nanomaterials? They are materials made by very small particles, ranging from 1 to 100 nanometres. For instance, the influenza (flu) virus is roughly 100 nanometres in diameter. Due to their small size, nanomaterials have peculiar physical, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties which could expand the range of revolutionary applications.

Within the BIOMAC, EUBIA will lead dissemination, communication and clustering activities.
